The website has now been re-activated with a different theme and with email posting enabled for selected ‘from’ addresses. Heart Internet provide a facility for setting scheduled tasks on the shared hosting setup so a workaround was possible to allow the Postie plug-in to check for mail in a secret inbox when get_mail.php was triggered. Montastic was set up to ‘check’ the site every hour just in case…

Again this is one where the wordpress child theme CSS wasn’t over-riding the parent theme due to a couple of lines in functions.php where the parent stylesheet was enqueued.

One outstanding issue is that the Postie plug-in isn’t dealing with pdf or doc attachments as it says on the tin: when it collects the mail the attachments are added to the media library but not to the published post – halfway there – with images it’s not a problem, however.
