Martin McNae, the Dumfries photographer‘s new custom wordpress theme is a child of the Portfolio theme, and is one less legacy Drupal website to worry about. Maintenance of wordpress sites is made much easier with the use of child themes and built-in automatic updating of core files to keep security and performance issues at a minimum.
The photography considerations for this were responsive design to sit well with tablets, smartphones and larger resolution monitors. A private client area for client galleries was constructed using ‘wp-sentry‘, ‘user role editor’ and ‘remove dasboard access’, along with a sidebar login.
Some fun was had with Photocrati (formerly Nextgen) Gallery and image watermarking.
